89% Oppose McCain-Bush Iraq Plan
McCain mentioned his plan for throwing an additional 30,000 troops into the Iraq quagmire might be unpopoluar with the American people. Yep:
Nearly three-quarters said Bush administration policy needs a complete overhaul or major changes. But only 11 percent of those polled backed calls to send more American troops to Iraq, as President Bush is said to be considering.
Who ever said running for President of the United States was a popularity contest anyway?

[…] Could the McCain-Bush Iraq plan be dragging him down? […]
Iraq is as much McCain’s fault. The civil war in Iraq, at a cost of 1/2 TRILLION dollars, the death of 3019 US Troops, no oversight for the last six years while McCain, Kyl and the rest of the Republicans rubber stamped Bush’s failure without one objection.
McCain is the problem, not the answer. It is why he cannot do anything but back this failed administration.
How can this state continue to elect fiscal irresponsible and incompetent Republicans?
An increase in troops so there are more targets for insurgents is an insane idea. This is a case when doing nothing would have been better. The problems facing Iraq can not be solved through military power. No end to the violence is in sight.
This “surge” of troops is too little and far too late to produce much benefit. Give McCain credit for having a consistent position on Iraq, but his judgment must be called into question for advocating an increase in troop strength. Four years of bloody violence should convince all but the most delusional that a way out should be crafted, not a repackaging of the same. The technogolically advanced weaponry possessed by US armed forces is of limited use when pitted against a crafty enemy employing guerrilla tactics. Unfortunately, there aren’t good options left to fix the Iraq mess. The last thing we should be seeking is an escalation.
