McCain $$$ Man: Donald Bren

The first in a series profiling the McCain 2008 Finance Committee, today’s money man is Donald Bren, chairman of the board of directors of The Irvine Company.

  • As you would expect, the man is extremely wealthy. According to Forbes Magazine, Bren is the 104th richest person in the world with a net worth of 5.7 billion dollars.
  • A Marine Corps veteran, Bren started building houses and worked his way up to a real estate empire.
  • Over the last three election cycles (2002, 2004, 2006) Bren has donated $327,450 to Federal candidates and committees. Mostly republican causes, with a little more than $300,000 of that going to the RNC.
  • Bren is known as a California Money Man, his rolodex is obviously wide ranging and he can command hundred of thousands of dollars in contributions quite easily.

Anyone else know anything about Donald Bren that I should know about?

Update: The Orange County Business Journal reports that Donald Bren cast his lot with McCain after being approached by both Giuliani and Romney.

I think Bren is wrong in supporting McCain and I would not be surprised if he withdrew his support after McCain stabbed the President, the troops, and the American public in the back by meeting with Levine. Any “man” that calls himself a leader and then throws in with the cut and run democrats is totally unworthy of the support of a leader like Bren.

Bren made his money by hard work and sticking with his promises. He is a prize to the republican party and should not waste his time on MecCain. When you compare him to the democrats bag man George Soros, the contrasts are glaring.

Bren created a company and helped Orange County grow into one of the most successful regions in the US. Soros almost plunged the Asian currency markets into chaos just so he could short sell currency. He is charged by France with criminal activity and he spent tens of millions of dollars of his illegally gotten gains trying to buy the last election.

What you should know about Donald Bren is that he donates millions of dollars to the under privileged and he is one of our brightest success stories.

I wish I had Bren’s money, I would help McCain more than I just did. I think my $50 check will be plenty for McCain to thump Hillary, so no worries, ha. I just wish more people were with me in Michigan in 2000 when we beat Bush. Our country would be better off had McCain won in 2000.
