McCain’s Freedom Fries

Are these the words of a level headed, intelligent moderate?

if you want to call them freedom fries, that’s fine with me

Senator John McCain, always a voice of incompetence…

McCain Opposed Motor Voter Act

Why does Senator John McCain want to make it hard for Americans to register to vote? In 1993, He voted against H.R. 2 which allows citizens to register to vote when they get or renew a driver’s license. Thankfully, enough Democrats and Republicans came together to pass this important legislation.

This program has allowed millions of Americans the convenience of registering to vote while doing other necessary government functions. It has increased voter registration. This lowers the mental barrier to voting and can lead to higher turnout. This law has directly strengthened our democracy, yet John McCain voted against it.

Does McCain want to make registering to vote more complicated for Americans?

Did McCain break his own law?

Looks like John McCain and his buddy Arnold might be under investigation for violating campaign finance laws:

The California Democratic Party said Friday it will ask government regulators to investigate Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sen. John McCain for allegedly violating campaign-finance law. The allegations center around a scheduled March 20 fundraiser in Beverly Hills, in which donors have been asked to contribute up to $100,000 for Schwarzenegger and the state Republican Party…At issue is whether McCain’s appearance runs afoul of restrictions on federal officeholders taking part in events that solicit political funds. Ironically, McCain is being accused of violating a law he helped write.

This fundraiser with Schwarzenegger is just one example of Two-Faced John McCain. All over the country, he’s preaching reform while he’s got his hand in the cookie jar.

McCain’s Racist Ties

Many may not be aware that Senator John McCain voted against making Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day a federal holiday in 1983. He later apologized for this vote and claimed it was a mistake. However, he has continued to associate himself with known racists.

McCain’s chief South Carolina Spokesman is Richard Quinn, founder and editor in chief of the magazine “Southern Heritage”. According to Salon.com:

Quinn’s articles have called Nelson Mandela a “terrorist” and King a man “whose role in history was to lead his people into a perpetual dependence on the welfare state, a terrible bondage of body and soul.” In another piece, Quinn said of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, “What better way to reject politics as usual than to elect a maverick like David Duke?”…

Why does John McCain continue to employ Richard Quinn as a spokesman? While he himself may disavow racism, paying a person like Quinn is a tacit approval of his beliefs.

John McCain’s Corrupt Friends - PA Edition

Well, gosh, I almost teared up watching McCain drool all over Rick Santorum. Seems McCain thinks that Senator Man-on-Dog is a “good and decent person” who “represents family values.”

Well, I know my family has always valued our sham charity. Yes, it would appear that Mr. GOP Ethics is using a fake charity to funnel money to his political operation. And the more we learn, the dirtier this story gets. A new development emerged today:

The largest known giver to a controversial charity founded by U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum made its $25,000 donation as the senator was working to win as much as $8.5 million in federal aid for the donor’s project in Delaware County.

In other words, Santorum set up his charity so that business interests could write unlimited checks to his campaign, then deduct them from their taxes. As McCain said, Santorum definitely represents “the next generation of leadership of the Republican Party.” Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

John McCain isn’t serious about reforming the political process. Like every other Republican in Congress, McCain wants to maintain the status quo. Rick Santorum is for sale, and he’s ripping off American taxpayers. Instead of taking a principled stand, John McCain is playing politics. I, for one, am not surprised.

McCain Supports Intelligent Design

Will Senator John McCain stop at nothing to pander to the religious extremists in the republican party? The Tuscon Star reported:

McCain told the Star that, like Bush, he believes “all points of view” should be available to students studying the origins of mankind.

Religion and science should not mix. A rational policy would be to group creation stories from all religions into a religion class and leave science in the science class. In order to compete in the world job market, our children need to have a science education that is free from religious dogma. Senator McCain once again is attempting to pander to the radical fringe of the republican base.

Immigration: The Two John McCains

McCain’s latest cause is all over the news. He’s traveling the country talking up his immigration reform proposal. Doesn’t seem like a bad idea, to be honest. Ted Kennedy’s on board, which is enough for me. It’s a brilliant political move by McCain because it shores up his “moderate” image.

Examining some of McCain’s actions, however, leaves us with some question marks. For example, McCain has been a diehard supporter of Arnold Schwarzenegger in California. Last year, he helped campaign for the Governator’s idiotic ballot initiatives, and now he’s helping Arnold’s re-election campaign. In fact, McCain even said that Schwarzenegger is a “marvelous governor.”

Keep in mind, this is the same Schwarzenegger who endorsed the vigilante “Minutemen.” Arnold even extended an informal invitation for the Minutemen to come to California. Even George Bush saw the writing on the wall (”GOP needs Latinos”) and condemned the group. Interestingly, McCain hasn’t gone public with his position on the group. You’d think a “straight-talking” champion of immigration reform would oppose vigilantism, instead of endorsing one of its most famous proponents.

McCain is trying to have it both ways on immigration. He wants to appease the hard-line racists that will decide the GOP nomination, but he also wants to appeal to moderate voters and Latinos. Instead of playing politics with immigration, maybe McCain should consistently work for reform.

McCain Wants to Privatize Social Security

Senator John McCain supports the privatization of Social Security through investing in the stock market. Even though a majority of the American people disagree with the idea of gambling with senior’s safety net, McCain wants to gove handouts to investment firms at the expense of our senior’s retirement funds. McCain was quoted on a Fox News interview as saying:

Allow people to invest part of their taxes earmarked for Social Security to investment, in investments of their choice. I am convinced that that will make the Social Security system solvent.

America should not gamble with the safety net that keeps millions of our parents and grandparents out of poverty. Or seniors deserve a leader who will protect them and not give handouts to corporate investment bankers.
